A Name Given
October 15, 2017

There was a man taking a short cut that led him through a cemetery. He fell into a freshly dug grave. He clawed, jumped, yelled, tried to climb out with every bit of strength he had. To no avail he became content to curl up in the dark corner of the pit he’d fallen into. Later another man taking the same short cut fell in the same grave. That man also scraped and clawed trying to escape. The first man in that deep darkness said, “it’s no use you can’t get out”. Suddenly the first man was alone.

Have everyone turn to those around them use each other’s name and greet one another. If you don’t know their name ask for it.

A Name Given

Numbers 12:3 Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.

Gen. 17:5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.

Neh. 9:7 “You are the Lord God, Who chose Abram, And brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans, And gave him the name Abraham.

Gen. 32:28 “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

Gen. 48:2 And Jacob was told, “Look, your son Joseph is coming to you”; and Israel strengthened himself and sat up on the bed.

Matt. 11:11 Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Name - A designation, title, label or honor…”Given” to a person.

If you matter to God, you matter. John 3:16 is a qualifier for everyone to receive God’s Love.

My name Darrell – Beloved…it is from the French word d’Airelle. Now in French if you place the letters “jus” in front of it then the meaning is cranberry juice. So I guess I’m either Beloved or cranberry juice. Either way I’m refreshing

God, Jer. 1:5… “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”. This can be said of each of us…Luke 12:7, Matt. 10:30 relays detail that God knows all about you. He is so precise that from day to day He knows how many strands of hair are on your head.

Names are identity, they are important. They actually help establish society. Names are Church. Church, well it is people. When you say you love Church you connect to people.

Moses, his name reminds us that in humility God uses us to lead people out of bondage.

Abraham challenges and reminds us that God gives each of us heritage. You do not stop with you. You bear fruit in righteousness and faith.

Jacob brings out the struggle with God and men to the open. You can wrestle with God and He will acknowledge you if you do not give up.

And what can we say about John The Baptist? Matt. 11:11 Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. This truth that Jesus Himself raises is simply eye opening. Those who feel least find recognition for who they are is founded in God.

Now the Name that is above names. The Name that causes demons to tremble. The Name that brings comfort when we are down. The Name that DRAWS OUT ONE MORE STEP. THE Name that settles all debate. The Name that leads the scattered to safety. The Name that Anchors in times of storm. The Name that SAVES and DELIVERS. The Name that in one breath is a “PRAYER”. JESUS!

Isn’t wonderful that the scripture teaches that praying in His name works miracles!!!

Matthew 18:5 Whoever receives one little child…in My name receives Me.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Mark 16:17signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; theywill take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Luke 10:20 (When you receive Christ as Lord and Savior) …rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
