Perspective – Look – Vision

Perception is everything,” is a statement made by most intellectuals, advertisers and educators.

2 Kings 2:1-15

When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a wind-storm, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, I ask you. For the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. Then the sons of the men who spoke for God at Bethel came out to Elisha. They said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take Elijah from you today?” And he said, “Yes, I know. Say no more.” Elijah said to him, “Elisha, I ask you to stay here. For the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. The sons of the men who spoke for God at Jericho came to Elisha. They said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take Elijah from you today?” And he answered, “Yes, I know. Say no more.” Then Elijah said to him, “I ask you to stay here. For the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” And Elisha said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.

Now fifty sons of the men who tell what will happen in the future went and stood on the other side of the Jordan River a long way off from the two of them who were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his coat and rolled it up and hit the water. And the water divided to one side and to the other, so the two of them crossed the Jordan on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I should do for you before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “I ask you, let twice the share of your spirit be upon me.” 10 Elijah said, “You have asked a hard thing. But if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be given to you. But if not, it will not be so.” 11 As they went on and talked, a war-wagon of fire and horses of fire came between them. And Elijah went up by a wind-storm to heaven. 12 Elisha saw it and cried out, “My father, my father, the war-wagon of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw Elijah no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. 13 He picked up Elijah’s coat that had fallen from him. And he returned and stood by the side of the Jordan. 14 He took Elijah’s coat that fell from him, and hit the water and said, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” When he hit the water, it was divided to one side and to the other, and Elisha crossed the Jordan.

15 The sons of the men who tell what will happen in the future at Jericho saw him. And they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.

There is Point of View, Mountain View, River View, (International House Hunters) Ocean View, etc. The employer overseeing the work place would say, “Camera view” ensuring he’s getting his money’s worth from his labor force.  Security companies promote we provide video from every view, no blind spots.

Whether sight or reasoning one might say, “view is everything”.  Remember, however, deception works on those who have a misrepresented or distorted view. That is a message for another day.

Today I have a hope that you will consider three important “Views”;

  • The World View.  This View is not political or self-evaluated. It is The View The Father God has for all people everywhere. “He so loves…He Gives His Son, His Church, His resources, His Gifts, His Holy Spirit… It almost seems that in many cases churches have taken a view that the World has already been reached when in fact there are billions that have yet to even hear the News Of Christ and His Love. Without sounding critical, please hear without taking it personal, it appears those who know of Christ need to re-enter a saving message in order to reach those who have never heard a Saving Message. The World View is that of seeing a hurting, suffering, lost people who need to know God Loves them. God sees and cares for all His creation. He especially cares for those who are the meanest, vilest who appear too unsalvageable. It will take prayer and love if you want to see The World as God sees it.

  • The Home View. A Joshua look into those we love near us. “As for me and my house…” A Family of God perspective that says all those who have accepted Christ are my family. The old chorus we used to sing “I’m so glad I’m part of the family of God…” Acts 2 “All those who believed cared for each other with what they had…”  They met each other’s need when it was the most inconvenient. It seems that someone always needs help in the middle of a storm. Or help is wanted on that beautiful day when you have planned that perfect picnic… When those we love are sick will we pray God heal them? When those we love committee sin will we stand up for them or judge them?

  • The Heavenly View.  When life gets me down and it’s painful to keep going I want what Stephen had, “But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.” Acts 7:55. I want what Elijah had when he came to the river that separated him from his meeting with God. He did not see a hindering body of water. He did not hear rushing sounds of a river between him and God. He just smote the water and continued his heavenly journey.

1. His reputation was one of having encounters with God. V. 5

2. He had what his apprentice wanted and more. V. 9

3. He met his heavenly appointment with God timing with Power from on High. “As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more…” I am no Elijah and there more than likely are no chariots of fire ready for me at my time of departure. However there is a Heavenly View tailor made for my life in Christ and I am determined to meet it with all the power God will pour into me… My View of His reality on the increase is primary!!!!
